California PUC Votes Against Passage of Upcoming Renewable Energy Ballot Proposal

The California Public Utilities Commission voted unanimously Thursday to oppose proposition 7, the Solar and Clean Energy Act of 2008, a ballot measure that would order California utilities to procure half of their power from renewable resources by 2025.

Shell Oil Aims to Develop Better Biofuels within 2 Years

Shell revealed that it has partnered with six different academic institutions in order to both research and expand biofuel development. The partnerships are expected to last between two and five years, and will be conducted at the actual institutions. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is one of the participants, along with the University of Campinas (Brazil), and the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Bipartisan Senate Bill To Extend Renewable Tax Credits

After much arm wrestling, the Senate came to an agreement on energy tax breaks which are set to expire later this year. Both Sens. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), of the Senate Finance Committee, made the announcement on Tuesday.
